The Kansas Department of Transportation is primarily responsible for transportation, maintenance and construction on the state highway system. In addition to supporting city and county maintenance and management of Kansas secondary roads.

The National Association of County Engineers is an affiliate of the National Association of Counties providing membership to engineers and non-engineers responsible for county transportation and public works departments.

The Local Technical Assistance Program promotes the mission of fostering a safe, efficient, environmentally sound transportation system by improving skills and knowledge of local transportation providers through training, technical assistance and technology transfer.
